Phone: Rings
Me: Hello?
Telemarketer with strong Indian accent: (After he gets over shock that someone actually picked up their phone) Ah, yes, ma'am, I am conducting a survey about the media. (Never asks me if I would actually like to participate, very clever.) When was the last time you watched a movie at the theater?
Me: [Scratching my head to think] Ah, January.
Telemarketer: How many movies have you seen at the theater this year?
Me: One
Telemarketer: Can you tell me what movies are in the theater in your area right now?
Me: Uh, no idea actually. I am studying for the bar so I really have no idea.
Telemarketer: [Bewildered] Ah, hold on a minute while I verify this call............Um, have a nice day. [Click]
Yes indeed, that makes probably the 20th telemarketer to hang up on me this year. I think I have a gift.

He would have been uber-surprised if he'd talked to me. I've seen one movie in the theaters in the past year, and that movie was a great little film called Jaane Tu . . . Ya Jaane Na. Yep, a Hindi film.
And I would have said that Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic and Jaane Tu . . . Ya Jaane Na are still playing in select theaters, mostly in California, while Kismat Konnection is premiering in certain cities, including St. Louis, this Friday. Oh, and I guess some American movies are out too, like that Will Smith movie Hancock and . . . um, some other ones.
Actually, we might have had a very interesting little conversation about films. Too bad he didn't call me.
Next time a telemarketer calls I'll give them your number, especially if they are from India.
One benefit to having a cell phone and no land line is that telemarketers are not supposed to call cell phones (they don't always obey this rule, but I've had pretty good luck). I haven't received a marketing call in about three years.
